Understanding Support at Home
Support at Home is the Australian Government’s in-home aged care program that helps older Australians access support to continue living safely, comfortably and independently in their own home.
The program replaced the previous Home Care Packages system and introduced changes to the way aged care support is assessed, funded and delivered. If you previously received a Home Care Package, your care arrangements may have transitioned to the new Support at Home program.
Under Support at Home, your individual needs are assessed, and funding is provided based on the level of support you require. You can then choose a trusted provider, like Trua Care, to support you through your care journey.
At Trua Care, we understand that choosing aged care support is an important decision. Our caring team takes the time to understand your needs, preferences and goals, providing personalised support that respects your choices and helps you remain connected to the life you value.
If you are new to aged care or have questions about how Support at Home works, our team is here to guide you through the process and provide clear, simple information.

Aged Care and Support at Home – Frequently Asked Questions
Support at Home is the Australian Government’s in-home aged care program that helps older Australians access support to live safely and independently at home. It replaced the previous Home Care Packages program with a new funding and assessment system.
A Home Care Package was the previous government-funded program that helped older Australians access support at home, including personal care, domestic assistance, nursing and other services. It has now transitioned to the new Support at Home program.
The previous Level 1 to Level 4 Home Care Package system has been replaced by a new Support at Home classification system. If you previously received a Home Care Package, your care arrangements transitioned to the new program. Your current funding and support will depend on your assessed needs.
Under the old system:
- Level 2 supported people with lower care needs.
- Level 3 supported people with more regular and ongoing care needs.
- Level 4 supported people with higher or more complex care needs.
Under Support at Home, your needs are assessed individually, and your funding is based on your current care requirements.
Eligibility is based on your care needs, not just your age. You will need an assessment through My Aged Care to understand the level of support you may be eligible for.
